Brought as many scuba tanks back to the SW that the rack would fit

put up 3 coat hooks in the galley that had been removed or got pulled off

packed my scuba gear back up

brought some trash from the deck to the dumpster

tied the ramp up so it would not fall off each time the ship moves

disconnected the old and connected the new pc up on the bridge and booted it up to windows, the password is not known at this time to proceed further

went through the port conex and straightened the tools and swept the bench and as much of the floor that was accessible including drill press debris, cleaned metal shavings off the subs CO2 scrubber screens, straightened the room for this weeks guest presentation

went throught the entire paint room organizing and making order of the tow straps, scuba gear, personal gear, paint and supplies, milk crates of cleaners adhesives solvents..., wet/dry vac equipment, sterile equipment (packaged tyvek suits, masks, goggles, booties) shorter ropes, ratchet straps, extension cords, bungees, work gloves, rags, climbing gear, fuel tanks, work vests, lifting straps, tied vertical lines with hooks for all the hard hats, boxed up parts for the large shelter and small random cables and put in the stbd cargo with the rest of the structure, removed all trash, and swept the shelves and floor clean

cleaned the pantry, moved paint gallons, silicone tubes, plumbing putty... to paint locker, wood and tools to the conex box, moved dry goods and flour off the floor, old galley cabinet hardware to tool room, told the welding rods need to stay in the pantry, swept up the dirt and debris off the floor and discarded waste(broken trim, wrappers, pile of partial pieces of stick on floor tile...)

unable to find an appropriate screw for the lounge door, fashioned one out of two bolts and a nut and fixed the door latch, tight and smooth

4pm

TUES: 7:50am

brief meeting mentioned running rov but no additions to yesterdays lists

assisted with the rov

had kevin pulll up the video card info and wrote it down on Gregs to do list: intel g965 express chipset family & invidia Geforce fx 5200

carried the racor from the dock to the deck

sealed the holes in the ceiling as best I could putting nuts and washers on the inside of the conex so the whole bracket was not freely moving, had to thread them further onto the u-bolt shaft, then on top put silicone (have no 5200) a piece of rubber, then either washers due to thread limitations or u-bolt plate and fastened with nuts, for the third set of holes, removed the u-bolt since it served no purpose and just used nuts bolts washers rubber and silicone

after lunch (12:15-12:50) started using the new grease on the grease fitting, some had not been done and were painted over, cleaned/chipped paint off the grease fittings I could find like on the windlass brake and mast crank. greased those that would accept grease, forward fair leads, windlass, winch in center of deck until rain and wind kicked up.

reviewed early footage of rov missions

rain stopped, continued greasing, stern fair leads, rov davit, one side of crane base(safety pin blocks other and will need to be done next time crane is used/turned), accessible and existing fittins on the a-frame and finished center winch on deck

WED: 8:03

assisted with umbillical unwrap, set up, flight, and retrieval of the rov

made a mold to create a potting mold

4:45

THURS: 7:50

watched the new video greg made

once the potting mold was ready, drilled allignment holes and cut alignment rods from welding rods, cut the mold in half, found some end caps and c-clamps and helped set up the mold for pouring, helped complete the set up and pour

helped fill the water, reconnected the stbd fire station then helped fill the tanks again once the valves below deck were opened

couple dives under the sea hunter to clear lines from both props, also worked a 6' piece of dog chain from the stbd prop

stayed until the ship pulls out

6:30 now, probably 7pm

Log of the week of March 31st, 2011

FRI:

meeting, no notes on board
once the fire hoses were drained after filling water, repaced and assembled fire stations 2 and 3, took the third hose and rolled it up and returned it to the refer room

rolled up the fuel line and tied it up and set iit back under the sub.

wrapped up the monkey fist line and hung it back up

Helped put the thrusters back onto the ROV. had a leak during install where the set pin that keeps housing from turning, there were 2 washers and the set screw protruded from the body, noted prior to install but set as others and with minimal pressure, a tablespoon of oil bled, brian removed a washer and thruser now set with set screw offset from vertical

SAT:

SUN:

MON:

arrived at 8:45, told there was no morning meeting, only thing on the board was to check for exhaust leak on generator

wanted to retap handle thread on port fire hose but could not find an appropriate nut if size was decreased

changed one of the retainer clips on the fuel hose adapters and returned it

helped unreel umbillical onto deck and lift of rov onto spool

observed some movements and modification of work on rov

fashioned mock up claw parts of rov

brought pc and cabling up to the bridge

got some buckets and made order of my gear in the bunk and paint locker

TUES:

morning meeting, going to scan, fresh water ok, salt water needs to be primed and heads need to work, measure the tanks in the SW again to determine volume in them-alex then determined not a priority, scrape the hull of the SW- I asked if we have any filled scuba tanks and/or if the compressor filters were ever changed-filters were one of the objectives over multiple previous months but has not been done-brian indicated it would take him a couple minutes, set up a hydraulic pump in line with one of the generators for the a-frame so that we do not need to run both generators

pressure tested all the scuba tanks in the conexs, only one has over 1k lbs, multiple tanks are at 0psi suggesting that they have moisture and rust since they have been sitting for a while and should probably not be filled until inspected, others only have a few hundred psi, compresser filters still not changed and we do not have any appropriate tools to scrape the hull. Got my dive gear ready.

inspected the oil fill cap on the lower winch in the center deck which is the only one with cable and see that the oil on the gears is white and milky suggesting water infiltration, checked the upper winch and did not see the same but the gears have not been turned in some time-did find the oil fill cap was loose and not snug and since it is flush with the surface probably water there too-both have a shared reservoir and not sure of degree of contaminated

checked the scuba tanks on the SW and max P is 250 psi

found some other tanks in the corner by the Seatek with air but all the o-rings were junk, put a tank together and scraped under the stern of the SW, intakes rudders, shafts, and hull

WED:

left for the site, initiated side scans and returned

THURS:

morning meeting

finished unloading gear from SW

assisted with the rov resolving issues with comport and connections

assisted with flight, saw some initial oil residue rise around port fwd thruster which bled during installation, set pin was and still is 1/16" less depressed than others, at deep ocean they indicated that it should not be fully extended so that spring can work, not sure how this one was refilled but is a loaner

helped break rov cable down and helped rewrap it onto the reel and put rov back in the trailer
